Anousheh Ansari is an Iranian-American engineer and co-founder and chairwoman of Prodea Systems. Her previous business accomplishments include serving as co-founder and CEOof Telecom Technologies.
The Ansari family is also the title sponsor of the Ansari X Prize.
On September 18, 2006, a few days after her 40th birthday, she became the first Iranian in space. Ansari was the fourth overall self-funded space traveler , and the first self-funded woman to fly to the International Space Station.
A. Ansari lifted off on the Soyuz TMA-9 mission with the Russian cosmonaut commander M. Tyurin and flight engineer NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria on September 18, 2006. Ansari landed safely aboard Soyuz TMA-8 on September 29, 2006,
During her nine-day stay on board the International Space Station, Ansari agreed to perform a series of experiments on behalf of the ESA.
