The sixth son of King George III, Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843), was the only surviving son of King George III who did not pursue a military career. He married twice in contravention of the Royal Marriage Act (and against the wishes of his father), and so had no legitimate offspring. The favorite uncle of Queen Victoria, he gave her away at her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840.
